Environmental Offset Planting
and Native Revegetation
Delivery of biodiversity offset obligations and native revegetation programs for SEQ development projects. Locally-provenant species, documented establishment maintenance and compliance reporting from installation through to performance criteria sign-off.
Meeting offset conditions requires delivering measurable ecological outcomes, not just purchasing land or planting trees. Offset vegetation must establish to specified performance criteria within approval timeframes, with documented evidence of continuous management.
Cambium delivers offset planting programs as a single-contractor service from species sourcing through to compliance sign-off. We understand the SEQ regulatory framework, source appropriate locally-provenant tubestock, and maintain documentation from installation day one.
Offset planting services
Locally-provenant tubestock sourced from reputable SEQ native nurseries with documented provenance supply chains. We confirm species availability and provenance before committing to installation schedules. We do not substitute non-local species without agreement from the supervising ecologist or approval authority.
Staged threat abatement prior to revegetation following SEQ Ecological Restoration Handbook sequencing. Weed mapping, priority species treatment, soil preparation, erosion and sediment control. Adequate site preparation is not optional for offset programs that need to meet performance criteria.
Tubestock installation to specified densities (typically 1,000 to 2,500 stems per hectare), with tree guards, mulching, stock exclusion fencing where required, and initial watering. Photographic installation record for compliance documentation.
Multi-year establishment maintenance covering weed control around plantings, plant replacement for mortalities, monitoring of canopy closure and cover development, and structured progress reporting against approval conditions performance criteria.
Photo-point monitoring from consistent locations at every visit, plant survival and density assessments, weed cover assessments against performance thresholds, species lists, treatment records, and progress reports formatted for approval authority or consultant submission.
Ongoing vegetation management following performance criteria sign-off under long-term management agreements. Continuity of site knowledge and ongoing weed management to protect ecological outcomes.
The four failure modes we design around
The most common failure. Weeds outcompete planted species before canopy establishes. Result: failed performance criteria, remediation costs, program delay.
Species selected from a generic list without reference to actual soil type, drainage and disturbance history. Poor survival rates, failed density criteria.
Installation-only contracts without ongoing weed control and plant replacement routinely fail. Result: weed reinfestation, failed criteria, full replanting required.
Records assembled retrospectively are incomplete and don't satisfy approval authorities. Result: compliance risk, program extension, potential enforcement.
From installation to sign-off
Offset programs typically require two to five years from installation to performance criteria sign-off. We structure establishment maintenance across three phases: critical establishment in Year 1 with monthly or bi-monthly site visits, consolidation in Years 2 to 3 with quarterly visits as canopy develops, and performance criteria assessment in Years 4 to 5 with structured monitoring against approval conditions.
We provide a complete documentation package at each phase. Photo-point records, survival and density assessments, weed cover assessments, species lists and progress notes, formatted for consultant review and approval authority submission.
How we structure offset programs
We offer offset planting programs under two contract structures. Full-program contracts cover site preparation, installation and multi-year establishment maintenance through to performance criteria sign-off under a single contract with a fixed scope and scheduled reporting. Staged contracts separate installation and establishment maintenance phases, suited to projects where funding approvals or program timelines require staged contracting.
All commercial contracts include defined scope and performance obligations, a scheduled site visit program, documentation and reporting deliverables, insurance and compliance documentation, and clear variation and change management processes.
We provide written proposals within three business days of receiving project details.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you source locally-provenant tubestock?
Yes. We source from nurseries with documented local provenance supply chains appropriate to SEQ regional ecosystems. We confirm provenance before ordering for offset planting programs and do not substitute non-local species without explicit agreement from the supervising ecologist or approval authority.
What planting densities do you typically use?
Planting densities depend on the regional ecosystem target and performance criteria specified in approval conditions. Typical restoration densities range from 1,000 to 2,500 stems per hectare. Your approval conditions or supervising ecologist will specify the applicable density for your project.
Can you provide ongoing management after performance criteria are achieved?
Yes. We offer long-term vegetation management agreements for offset areas following compliance sign-off. This provides continuity of site knowledge and ongoing weed management to protect the ecological outcomes achieved during the program.
What if site conditions are different from what the offset conditions assumed?
We flag significant site condition variations to the supervising consultant promptly. Adaptive management in response to unexpected site conditions is normal in restoration programs. We document all adaptive management decisions and rationale for the compliance record.
Can you take over an offset program that's already underway?
Yes. We can review existing documentation, assess current site condition and continue implementation from the current stage. We'll be direct about what's been achieved and what remains to be done.
