Tree Planting and
Native Revegetation
Professional tree planting for farms, acreage and conservation properties across SEQ. Species selection, ground preparation, planting and long-term establishment. Trees in the ground that actually survive.
Getting trees in the ground is the easy part. Getting the right trees in the right place, prepared correctly and looked after through establishment, is what separates a successful planting from a paddock full of dead tree guards.
Cambium brings ecological training and field experience to every planting project. We understand SEQ soils, local rainfall patterns, relevant species and the practical realities of establishment on working farms and lifestyle properties. From a small koala habitat planting to a large-scale revegetation program, we do it properly from the start.
Tree planting for every landscape purpose
Koala food tree species and native understorey plantings that create genuine habitat and connectivity between fragmented bushland. Locally sourced, ecologically appropriate species selection.
Protect livestock, pasture, crops and infrastructure from heat and wind. Species selected for fast establishment, longevity and compatibility with your property's soil and rainfall.
Stabilise creek banks, reduce erosion, improve water quality and restore riparian vegetation corridors. Critical for properties with seasonal drainage lines and watercourses.
Native species hedges and screens that define boundaries, block wind and create structure in the landscape. A lasting alternative to fencing that builds ecological value over time.
Replanting degraded areas following weed removal, fire, erosion or clearing. We select species appropriate to your local plant community and manage weed competition through establishment.
Established shade trees in paddocks reduce heat stress on livestock, improve pasture health under the canopy and contribute to long-term property value and biodiversity.
Productive tree planting for future timber, fodder or multi-purpose use. Integrated into the farm layout to maximise long-term returns alongside ecological benefits.
Hollow-dependent species including gliders, owls and parrots rapidly adopt nest boxes in appropriate habitat. We assess, source and install boxes suited to your local wildlife community.
The right tree in the right place
Species selection is where most tree planting projects succeed or fail. Plant the wrong species for your soil, rainfall or intended purpose and you'll be replacing dead trees within two years. Plant species that are locally extinct, poorly matched to the existing plant community, or sourced from the wrong genetic provenance, and you'll undermine the ecological value of the whole planting.
We draw on ecological training, local field knowledge and an understanding of SEQ's varied plant communities to select species appropriate to your specific site. For habitat projects we prioritise locally native species with documented wildlife value. For shelterbelts and functional plantings we balance establishment speed, longevity and compatibility with your management system.
From site visit to established trees
We walk your property and assess the landform, soil type, existing vegetation, weed pressure, rainfall and your goals for the planting. No guessing from a desk.
Species selected for your specific site conditions and purpose. We source locally native provenance stock from reputable nurseries or can assist with on-site propagation for larger programs.
Pre-planting weed management to reduce competition during establishment. Soil preparation, mulching and layout marked before trees go in. Preparation is what separates thriving plantings from failed ones.
Trees planted at the right depth, in the right position, with tree guards and stakes where required. Water-in applied to every plant. Nest boxes installed at this stage where relevant.
Planting is step one. We monitor establishment, manage weed competition around trees, replace failures and report on survival rates. Your planting investment is protected through the critical first years.
What affects the cost of tree planting in SEQ
Tree planting costs vary considerably depending on scale, site conditions, species and the level of ongoing maintenance required. We provide fixed-price quotes after a site visit.
Per-tree costs decrease at scale. A 50-tree habitat planting has a different unit cost to a 5,000-tree revegetation program. We quote both and everything in between.
Tube stock is the most cost-effective establishment method for most programs. Larger advanced trees cost more but provide faster results in amenity or high-visibility plantings.
Steep slopes, wet ground and limited vehicle access affect how long planting takes and what equipment we need. Flat, accessible paddocks are the most efficient to plant.
Sites with high weed competition require pre-planting treatment and more intensive follow-up maintenance to protect establishment. This adds to the total program cost but protects the investment.
A one-off plant-and-leave quote is always cheaper than a full establishment program. We recommend at least two years of post-planting maintenance for any serious revegetation project.
Tree guards, stakes, watering infrastructure and nest boxes are quoted separately and vary with species requirements, site conditions and browsing pressure from stock or wildlife.
Small habitat plantings of 50 to 200 trees typically start from $1,500 fully installed. Larger programs are quoted on a per-tree or per-hectare basis after a site assessment.
From 50 trees to 50,000
We work across a wide range of planting scales and contexts. A small koala habitat planting for a private landowner in Birkdale, a large riparian revegetation program along a Scenic Rim creek, a council-funded wildlife corridor in Logan. Each gets the same level of care in species selection, ground preparation and establishment management.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best time of year to plant trees in SEQ?
Late autumn through winter is generally the best planting window in SEQ. Cooler temperatures and lower evapotranspiration rates give trees the best chance to establish before the heat and dry periods of spring. That said, with adequate watering and site preparation, planting can succeed year-round on most sites. We advise on timing as part of our site consultation.
How do you select which species to plant?
Species selection is based on your site's soil type, rainfall, aspect, proximity to existing vegetation, the purpose of the planting and any ecological goals such as koala habitat or wildlife corridor connectivity. We draw on regional flora knowledge and local field experience rather than generic species lists, and we prioritise locally native provenance stock where it's available.
How many trees do I need for a meaningful koala habitat planting?
Even small plantings of 20 to 50 koala food trees in the right location can contribute meaningfully to habitat and corridor connectivity. Larger plantings of 200 or more trees create more substantial habitat value. The most important factors are species selection, planting location relative to existing bush and koala movement corridors, and whether the trees are properly established and maintained.
Do you supply the trees as well as planting them?
Yes. We source tube stock and advanced stock from reputable SEQ nurseries as part of our planting service. For larger programs we can work with specialist native nurseries to source locally native provenance material. You don't need to source trees separately unless you have a specific preference.
How long does it take for planted trees to establish?
Most native tube stock in SEQ becomes self-sufficient within 12 to 24 months if planted correctly and maintained through the first dry season. Fast-growing species like acacias can reach 2 to 3 metres within 18 months. Slower-growing species and those planted on difficult sites may take longer. We recommend a minimum two-year establishment maintenance program for any serious planting investment.
Can you help with a grant-funded tree planting project?
Yes. We work with landowners, councils and NGOs on grant-funded revegetation and habitat restoration programs. We can provide on-ground implementation, planting records, survival monitoring and reporting to meet grant acquittal requirements. We also offer environmental grants writing support for landowners looking to access funding in the first place.
Do you install nest boxes as part of tree planting projects?
Yes. Hollow-dependent species including sugar gliders, squirrel gliders, owls, kookaburras and various parrot species will readily use nest boxes in appropriate habitat. We assess what species are likely to be present, select box types and dimensions accordingly, and install them at heights and orientations suited to the target species.
Are you insured?
Yes. Cambium Land Management holds current public liability insurance. We are happy to provide a certificate of currency on request.
